High School Welding Competition
#1
It's finally that time! I've been waiting awhile to go to our welding contest. We will be traveling to Moultrie GA and I will first compete at the county level, then if I place 1st or 2nd I will move to state. I would be the first person to go to state in the history of our school! Anyway I've been welding for 3 years and hope to take 1st place and go to state. Contest includes stick welding (6011 and 7018) verticals, horizontal, T-joint and maybe a couple other joints. Then the same positions on MIG.Moregrip, you might remember this from your welding thread a while back.
Anyway, wish me luck and I'll post the results Friday afternoon hopefully.

Good luck Philip and have a good time. I remember doing all of those welds plenty of times back in the old Ag Mechanics Team days. My specialty though was the oxy/acty torch. Got first place individual in the regional round. Went to state but they didn't have a torch competition there, just some tough *** calculations about water/soil drainage, electrician stuff and we had to identify different parts of a haycutter (lol!). I think we finished 20th out of about 200 schools. Not too bad, but we didn't get to go to Nationals.
Do you get to go to Nationals if you win State?

Thanks for all the kind words. However I got
. Since we were going to a differnt competition this year I didn't really know what to expect. I thought it would be some T-joints, laps, butts, etc as I had seen my friend compete in last year, but I was wrong. I was given a huge blue-print sheet I assembled it find (tacked togther) but the long vertical joint 6011s got me. I did awesome 7018s, they looked beautiful. However, my 6011s,
I don't know why though, I guess I was nervous and I was operating a machine I wasn't used too. I ran out of time, messed up on some reading of the blue-print and was a little rushed. End result out of 9 people I didn't make it to top 3, I even go beat by a chick who placed 3rd! I think I probably made 4th or so. However, I'm going to seriousely buckle down my 6011 vertical joints. I will be attending a Tulsa Welding school competition April XX. I will do a lot better, I was ashamed of myself. Anyway, I got to overconfident. But I have the skill, and I was told I did very well for my first competition.
Anyway, thanks for the support!
