We have been having somewhat of a heat wave up here, high 90s and high humidity ( I know its not bad compared to places like florida and what not, but its friggin hot). The truck temps have been higher than normal lately, and more importantly, the trans temps are over 200 slightly when I am sitting in traffic. I know the stall will generate a little extra heat, but I don't like it. Right now, the trans fluid goes into the radiator, then to the cooler (28K Napa piece). I am taking the trans fluid out of the radiator and routing it to a second cooler this weekend to help lower the temps, as well as finally swapping to royal purple ATF (will the fluid help with the temps)? Whatever, got sit sidetracked...
The other day I threw some water wetter in the cooling system to temporarily bring down engine temps and this is the weird part. I put it in at night, after I got home from work, then drove it to work in the morning. No temp problems in the morning, its cool enough outside and no traffic. On the way home, when I got into the stop and go crap, the temps went up to about 225, they usually hover right between 200 and 210. This brought the trans temps up over 200 as well. finally got moving again, and they came down to about 185, lower than normal. That was two days ago, today, no problems, sat at 200 in stop and go and dropped to 180-185 when moving over 30mph.
This **** made my coolant temps fluctuate more than I am use to, and that spike had me worried for a minute. Anyone got any input?

It sounds like there was a bubble that is gone now. I wonder if trans coolers in radiators help get the trans up to temperature quicker in the winter? Is colder always better in a trans, or is there an optimal temp range? (Again, winter only)

get the tru cool 40k with thermal bypass
it keeps my temps down in the 150-165 range in 95 degree heat in traffic
and the thermal bypass will bypass the cooler in colder temps to help get it up to opperating temp
sometimes if it is too cold it wont go into lockup

I would love the TC40K, but I have one on the shelf in the garage...free. Probably going to spring for the thermal bypass though. I'll post up with temp changes after I do some driving.

We've been having the same weather, and I've been driving mine with the ac blasting and I haven't seen trans temps above 165...trucool 40K, through the radiator, 05 efans, 160 stat, Circle-D 258mm generating some heat while I drive spiritedly. The ac in my truck is better than in my house...I'm tempted to go sit in it right now lol

<< Misses Rocky Point Long Island.
Same thing happened when the stat was changed from 180 to 160, and again a few months ago when the new radiator was put it..
Just like any baby, it's got to be burped.
Billy what's the TruCool 40k that I've heard a lot about?

Mine has got that hot every year for the past 6.6 years.LOL. 150,000 hard beat on miles, trans temps in the summer run 210 degrees everyday here in Louisiana. Does it worry me, yes, but it still keeps on kicking for now.
