so one of our good customers at napa cam in today complaining that his K&N (that we didnt sell him) ruined his engine
(this guy is a certified mechanic and knows his stuff as far as i know)
it took about 60k miles before it was to tired and worn out to function truck had 67k miles on it at time of death
my question is has anyone had a problem with K&N filters or intakes? i know they flow MORE air and filter LESS microns but is it enough to destroy an engine in 60k miles?
i dont know 100% of the details from how it failed but it had very low compression all around failed the leakage test and didnt have enough power to cruise the highway

My 5.3 had a K&N on it for 60K when I pulled the 5.3 and all was well as far as comrpession goes. My dad has had one on his diesel for 120K with no problems and my stepdad has had one in his 00 ecsb 5.3 for 50ishK with no problems. I would say something else is up. Most on tech bad-mouth K&N, never really searched into why though.

he works for a concrete company so theres alot of fine dust and crap floating around i'm assuming his oil pan was making concrete lol

most likely he over oiled it... and it destroyed the mass air flow... or threw off the reading which could have caused a problem with the engine... i really doubt it was the k&n that cause the death of his engine
