Talking I'm getting it! i think! Come in! Quick!

Ok so i found the 5.3 with harness for 600$ in a junk yard
Then i found a guy who said he has a motor its either a 4.8 or 5.3 off of a 2007 silverado with harness and transmission for the same price. How can i tell which ones which? I hope i get it today I would try and put it in tomorrow!

I think the best easiest way to tell would be to remove a spark plug. Turn the engine over by hand until the piston is up. Take a piece of wire and drag it across the top of the piston. The 4.8 has a smooth flat top, and the 5.3 has a dished piston.

Or RPO codes in the glove box... LM7 is the 5.3 and LH8 (I think) is the 4.8

The 4.8, and 5.3 are identical externally. The piston check is the easiest thing that I can think of unless you had the tuner tell you. And then to be honest, even the tuner could be wrong.

smaller v8s are stamped "4.8/5.3" as they're the same block. 8th digit in VIN is T: 5.3 8th digit is V: 4.8
