Default I know this has been discused, but havn't seen for stock

tranny temp gauges, just aftermarket ones. Just curious where you guys that do have the stock gauge, needle sits after driving for a bit. Mine sits about right in the middle, so that is the norm, I hope... I know that the happy med is about 180 give or take a lil

Thanks much

John

Mine was showing 171 the other day with the Tech II hooked up. That would be on my 99 silverado.

you can pretty much say double the Ambient Temp... to a certain degree.
Usually if its 70* outside, EFI live says 140ish.
if its 90* it shows 180ish

but its been awhile since ive looked at it..

My Autometer Trans temp gauge shows about 10* lower than what the PCM says..

Hmmm just returned from a drive, it crepped up past the middle mark and to the next big line, right before 300, I am going to say that is 250 I think I need a bigger trans cooler, but it is 90 outside so, what you all think ? Now it was sittin a bout 10 min before I snapped this so a tad of heat soak snuck up

Thanks guys

40,000gvw here..its like an intercooler,,yes id say 250..maybe 249.6..any how it says 100 and 300 and the middle mark would be 200 so between 200 and 300 is 250..thats the way i see it

250 is high for the tranny temp!! you'll burn the tranny if you keep on running it that hig.. dont mess around and get the 40kgvw from tru-cool, like dirtrackracer said, it looks like an intercooler cause its big, but it keeps the temps way low!! my truck in this 90+ degree weather and ******* it everyonce in a while would see 160-170degrees MAX, if i would just cruise it would be between 130-145, best tranny cooler in the market that really does the job like its suppose too...

WHAT?!?!? Unless you have a tiny *** cooler the size of my hand OR you were towing stuff with a high stalled converter and a small cooler I say something else is wrong. I won't knock the fact that large coolers are kick ***, but unless you have a high *** stalled converter you should NOT be seeing temps that high IMO. ap is right, you will smoke your ****.

Does it cool down at all if you hit the highway and the converter locks for a few miles?
