As some of you may remember I had my Pioneer head unit die about 13 months after I got it. This was diagnosed by an installer at a local shop that my friend owns. It seemed to be a ground prob to me. It would turn on and off when I hit bumps, but he assured me it was the HU and refferred me to a repair center. They said it needed some connectors and software updates. $200 to repair it. I ordered a new Alpine and went to install it today. It wont turn on at all. If this turns out to be a fuse or wiring problem 2 people are really going to get a serious *** beating tomorrow. Im so sick of ******** taking advantage of people. Im not sure what else it could be, so I will wait to get a definate diagnosis. Do any of you have any ideas?? It is pretty hard for me to get to stuff in there, but from what I can see everything is good. I cant get to the fuse box and I dont know where they grounded it so I cant check that. Im so mad right now

Connectors and software update?
Sounds like a bad ground to me that may have finally worked it's way loose. Get a voltage tester and see if the ground is any good.

try taking a wire to a point where you know is a good ground and connect it to the deck and see if that works. i had something similar happen in my 91 gmc rcsb. i ran a ground wire straight to the frame and never again had probs!
just tryin to help!

I am not skilled enough to even be let into our install bay and even I don't do that. LOLIf you don't have access to a multimeter you can buy a cheapo testlight form RadioShack or even Walmart and test for ignition voltage (when the key is in the on position) and constant 12v NP. Like stated above you can easily run your own ground.
If you wanna chekc a deck quickly for power simply twist the Constant 12v wire (Yellow) and the Ignition 12v wire (Red) together and touch em to your truck battery +, and touch the ground to the batter - and the deck should power up. Ghetto but it works. Just make sure you still have the fuse on the 12v constant wire

I just got back from the stereo shop. I went in and asked to speak with Chris (owner) and told him that my new HU wasnt working. I told him it did the same thing that my old one did and that his installer told me the old HU was broken. He said I'll have him meet you at your truck. The guy came out (same guy) and was very nice. I told him what was happening and he said he would fix it right now. 15 minutes later he was done. I asked him if it was a ground prob and he said no, I didnt have the right alpine connector. I asked him to show me which he immediately did. I told him that the repair place said it would be $200 to fix my old HU and he said if I wanted to go pick it up he would show what was wrong with it. He then said if I wanted he would fix it and pay me $200 for it since he could resell it for at least $400. Im very happy with the outcome and I tipped him $20 when I left.
Anyways thanks for listening guys.
