Just got done with installing russel brake lines and drilled and slotted rear rotors on my 02 tahoe last nite. The brakes work better than they ever have before. However I still cant get them to lock up or even chirp the rubber on pavement. So I suppose im gona have to hydro boost it...... question I have is will a boost unit from a 97 3500 pickup work or am I crazy and shouldnt be such a tight *** and get the correct unit to fit...

any knowledge would be great thanks..

So you are saying that ABS is not engaging? If ABS is not coming on, then you aren't on the brakes hard enough.

 

Or the brakes agent applying enough force to lock up the wheels. Abs only engages when it senses sliding

 

It feels like I got a really good pedal and got all the air out. I can lock em up in the gravel and the ABS activates rite away. But barely even got a chirp on the pavement the one time that i did get the ABS to activate. Thats with damn near ripping the wheel off and breaking the seat slides for leverage.....

Should add that I switched out the master cyl for the larger bore size think it measured 37mm to try and get a bit more fluid volume to the dual pistion calipers. Im gona say that it may make the pedal push a bit harder but still it should lock em up no matter. Hell either of my old pkups will make you pick glass or dash plastic from your teeth....one is hydro boost and the other is vac boost...


It just feels like it could use a bit more clamping force.


The ABS acts like it cuts the pressure to the rears.

 

Hydroboost is the answer. I have 14" slotted rotors with baer rotors and currently my abs module is not installed on the truck. I had it repaired. My brakes won't lock em down at all. Gravel or backwards it will but it takes a lot of effort backwards. I should hydroboost mine but I am going to buy a gopro hero 2 instead.

Do it. I just put hydroboost on my truck a little over a week ago. Mine was like yours, I could push as hard as I could and it would just stop pretty good, not great. Saturday I went for a drive and tried them out, and decided I should have done this years ago.

 

Yea hydroboost is nice. Mine had gotten so bad i ran a red light towing a car. I about broke my steering wheel also.
Hydroboost now and can make abs kick on with just one foot on the pedal and very little force. Stops a heavy trailer very good too. SS brake lines all around with EBC on front.

$160 for booster/ master cylinder here.
Even put hydroboost on my samurai

 

Did you do a good job of bleeding the lines? Perhaps give that another shot before spending more money.
