Oh no, not getting bent out of shape at all. Heck, I used to own a 99 T/A. I was just making a comment that refers to the fact that it is not fair to make comments that "a particular vehicle has beaten another one everytime" when your vehicle is modified. He was making it sound like a stock Duramax can walk all over a Hemi. Stock vs. Stock, a Duramax would get eaten alive by a Hemi. I know that because I have a Hemi and my best friend has a Duramax. Course, you do a few things to a Duramax and they are MONSTERS!

It's all in fun right?

Hey, I also have now got a Dodge, 2004 Dodge Ram RC/SB w/ Hemi 2wd. I used to have an 02 z71 reg cab and the Hemi does feel stronger off the line and through the power band than the 02. I have the 20s and can break them loose at will. No tracks around here so I dont have any times, but Id guess around 15 or a little more. I like the GMs, probly would be driving one if they hadnt redesigned them to the newer style. I do like my ram though, crappy mileage and all.

Also, big thumbs up to the guys on this site for not turning this into a "they suck" thread, really says something about you guys to be able to keep an open educated mind about a different make truck!

thanks for the info guys.. since i dont have a 5.3 i'll just have to borrow my dads 2000 3/4 ton with the 6.0 chevy and show him whats up.

I dont bash dodge either, the hemi is a hell of a motor. I just dont think the new truck hemi's are what the old hot rod cars used to be. BUT, them new dodge durangos are UGLY!!!!!!! Their HORRIBLE! the dodges look alright but the durango's are just...

Having choices is nice, if we were all chevy guys it would be kinda boring, i wouldnt have no ford friends to make fun of!

EDIT:
hrrmmm... i wonder how my K5 with a 454/TH400/np208 and 3.73 gears would compete with a tug- of-war with a hemi when i finish the swap...

Hey, whiners! Just wanted to throw in some info for you to think about.

Chevy gets there factory power ratings from the output shaft of the trans. The 5.3 is rated at 285hp, which is from the output of the trans. Most stock 5.3s dyno high 240s to low 250s at the wheels.

Dodge i believe (correct me if im wrong on this) measures power from the flywheel. The 5.7 Hemi is rated at 345hp at the flywheel. Most stock Hemis dyno low 250s at the wheels.

Call me crazy, but does this not mean a stock 5.3 is just as powerful as a stock Hemi?

The information you provided about how each manufacturer gets the power rating of an engine is interesting, don't know if it's true but it's interesting. What I don't like is how you start the thread "Hey Whiners", that type of response is . Why does some one always have to resort to name calling in a discussion thread when there's a difference of opinion?

No hard feelings, i was just picking. I wasnt trying to make anyone mad.

The info for the chevy power rating is correct i know, but i really dont know about the dodge. Im just assuming they measure there power at the flywheel. If someone knows for sure how they do it, please jump in and let me know.

This is just my theory of why a stock RCSB 5.3 VS. RCSB Hemi, the 1/4 times and dynos are very close. It sounds reasonable.
