Default Heads for 5.3.

Hey guys, so I've been saving and saving money for more mods. I've been looking for a set of heads for my truck since I have the stock 706. Was looking at 799 heads and getting them milled but I will cam it at the same time as the mods. I want to raise compression in it, but when I rebuild I will do a 4.8 pistons in it.

So do you think milling would be a good idea? Or should I do a good portion and polished job and then add my 224r cam and then worry about more when I do a full rebuild?

I'd just send the 5.3 heads to advance induction or 243s milled with a light port and polishing

have big valves put in the intake side while you are at it. they should flow real close to a set of 799s like that.

Well found a good deal for a set of 706 heads (100 bucks) and I plan on doing a larger I take valve and port and polished nicely. I plan on doing a tsp 220r or 224r cam in my truck and doing a TBSS intake while I am there.

I also found a set of 243s but he wants 400 bucks and still needs to be set up.

For the price and since I can get access to a machine shop to do all my work (just buy parts) imma go with 706 heads. What do you guys think with this set up? Should I mill them?
706 -ported pI listed larger valves
Tsp 220r or 224r cam
Ls7 lifters
TBSS intake
1 7/8 longtuses

I would mill them to achieve 58 CC - 57 CC. This will be right around 10:0-1

The cam will benefit from the added compression. You will gain some flow on the top end with the larger 2 inch intake valve.

Yeah this will be my DD and it'd an Extended cab. I saw that a couple people love the 2.00 in intake valve and 1.55 in exhaust valves with this head and milling them. I mean the 706 heads are cheap and I'll have an extra set of them I could play around with later or so.

How far would I have to get them milled to get to 10.1 -1 and what gasket?

They say about .007 for every CC Best to measure though. I would say about .030 removal would be about 57cc.

Factory GM .052 MLS gasket.
