Default GMT800 Third Brake Light Leak

Moved the truck around today and water ran out of the headliner.

The gasket seal around the third brake light is leaking, I pulled it and siliconed the thing. I have been searching but haven't found a part number for the gasket that seals the light. All I find says that you have to get a new light assembly which comes with a gasket on it.

Any body have the same experience with this or a better remedy? I know I could get some weatherstripping stuff and make my own or just stick with silicone. But I'm a little **** about using factory gaskets and seals as opposed to rigging things.

I'd just rtv it. If it works on an intake it'll work on a brake light.

Yeah I used some good black rtv this evening on it, just wondered if a gasket was even available.

I may just get a new light assembly sometime this spring then. The sun has worked this one over pretty good anyway since the truck has never been garaged.

I had the same problem but mine was running down the panels out if sight. I tried compressed air and soapy water trying to find the leak. I finally pulled off all the trim to find the leak. It was amazing I got the amount of water though that light.

No, gasket is not available separately from gm or ac/delco, I hated to do it but ended up filling it with silicon.

Thanks for the input, looks like I'll get a new assembly then sometime soon. The silicone will work for now until I get a new one.

Haha! I have gone through 3 of these. Do you have subwoofers? That is what caused my failures. I RVT'ed the last one and it still leaked (many months later). I think I am going to have it shaved. That should fix it!

No subs for me, I'm already hard of hearing as it is.
