Default Gas Gauge Periodically goes to Empty then comes back

I just noticed today that occasionally the gas gauge will drop to completely empty. I imagine that this is a wiring issue or a sending unit issue. Is this a common problem? Can someone point me in the direction of a fix? I know this is a pretty common problem on the old Dodge Ram's but not Chevy's. Thanks!

Yea, the sender in the tank seems to be the common failure.

Dude...the problem is your Fuel Level Sensor which is connected to your Fuel Pump Module in the tank.

If you get me your Vin # I'll shoot you the correct part number.

Mine's been doing it for about a year. When it was under warranty they were supposed to fix it, that lasted until about two years after the warranty. Expensive little suckers!

My buddies Cobalt does that. What he does is gets it up to about 20mph, puts it in neutral and then turns the car off. Waits for a few seconds then turns it back on. I almost died the first time he did it. Then I remembered it was just a Cobalt anyway. It works though.
