Default Front End Noise

Hey guys, I have a noise in my front end and I was wondering if anyone else has ever had it. When I go around a right hand turn it makes a rotational noise (kinda like a woosh woosh woosh), Don't know how to discribe it in words. When I am straight or going left it stops, when I apply the brakes nothing changes. It sounds as if there is a flat spot in a wheel bearing. I have heard of the CV shafts going bad on these trucks-could this be it? The truck is a 2000 Silverado 1500 4x4 with 70,000 miles on it. Thanks

This sound your hearing can be a possibility of several things my friend. I've replaced Steering Wheel POsistion Sensor bearings because of this problem before. Also you may check your Intermediate Steering Shaft (but not likely). You steering shaft will cause a thumping or popping sound.

I'd start by removing the collar around the base of your steering wheel. Then check and make sure the collar is not causing a rub or making contact with the wheel.

You'll probably end up replacing the Steering Sensor Bearing though.

If you need part #'s just ask.

The sound sounds like its more near the tires, it is not the clunking sound of the intermeadiate shaft-been there before.

Check your hubs. Jack the front end up and grab the tire top and bottom and try to make it lean, like camber direction. AFAIK more than 1/2" with moderately sized tires is the maximum amount of play that they should have.

Oh yeah, jacked up the truck and I could move the tire in and out (camber) an inch! Turned out to be the hub/bearing assembly, bought new for 300 dollars at the local dealership. The part is nice-comes with all new ABS speed sensor and wire, easy installation in a matter of about an hour. Thanks to all that have helped.
