On my girlfriend's 2005 Mustang GT, there is about a 1 to 1.5 second delay between pressing the gas and the car reacting. I popped the hood and pulled the intake tube off and turned the key to run, I had her press the gas both quickly and very slowly and watched the TB. It didn't react smoothly to the pedal input, but rather was very jerky and delayed.

I sprayed TB cleaner and scrubbed it down, but no difference. It seems like it's a problem with the throttle body itself, but I know there is probably a bunch of electronics in between that might be able to cause this. I am stumped

That is not the problem, it is not a Ford designed thing, it is a problem with the throttle position sensor, throttle body or something else. And the SCT tunes on a stock car net about 8hp and 3tq at peak.

As you press the gas, the car doesn't go anywhere, then after a delay, it all of a sudden surges, making pulling out into traffic almost impossible.

could be a bad throttle body. i have had to replace them before but you usually get a service engine light. fords tp sensors are junk. especially on the new electric throttle bodies.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I had to replace the tp sensor on my Bronco too, made the truck run really bad, but not the same symptoms as this.

I want to pick one up on ebay or some Mustang forum for cheap, but I haven't been able to find one.

EDIT: On second thought, these TB's probably don't have a tp sensor since the computer is telling the throttle how far to open anyways. It seems they would only be necessary on cable activated TB's.

it has a sensor also. the pcm wants to see the commands match. i am shocked that it is working as well as it is doing what it is doing. it will usually go into failsafe as soon as the pedal and pcm positions dont match.

Hmm, I don't know then. If I can find a stock TB to swap on, would that fix the problem or is it computer related? My neighbor down the street has a 2007 Mustang GT and I'm sure he would let me swap TB's to test it out.
