DON'T YOU LOVE THE SOUND OF THESE COLD MORNING START UPS
#1
I would just like to say how nice it is to walk out in the cold morning air and start my truck. I just love hearing the sound of a knocking motor. I can't wait till the really cold morning in the Ozarks.

RED2K. I feel your pain. I was under the immpression I had engine knock too. It turns out I have engine "tick". My trucks engine does not make noise at initial start up. It makes after it reaches full operating temperature. All the trucks(99and newer) I have heard have some kind fo engine noise. I am just thankfull mine is slight tick compared to many others. I have been told it sounds more like a noisy lifter. My friend just recently bought a 2002 5.3 and it started knocking at about 2k miles. Unfortunately, his noise is very loud. Just be carefull what you post in this forum, a few people are still in denial about this issue. Do a search here or anyother truck forum and will see its a widespread issue.

u guys are lucky, i never really notice my knock unless my truck is warmed up and im sitting in a drive through or something like that.
but i do love starting my truck in the morning after its cold. Raise the rpm by only like 150rpms and it sounds swweeett! would sound soo much better without cats though

I went out to start my truck and realized I didn't have a motor.Does anyone have any used gerbils? Red2Gay this has got to be the stupidest post ever...It's even worse than 41lb injectors.

I have no knock at all however I have the ticking sound on the driver side that never stops regardless of temperature. Some guy emailed me once and said it was the back driver side (left) fuel injector and it has to be replaced. He said he worked at a dealer and that this happens all the time. Not sure if this is true but someone with the tick should try this. But it does sound more like a lifter but its worth a try.
