don't be like me

ok, my day started off nice. got to work, had to leave my base to go to keesler AFB for an eye exam/pre op for lasek. took my new supervisor (who is taking over my job) along for the ride and to convert him from a rice fart cannon SUV to a fullsize american truck. no problem right. well, get to he afb, go in, do my thing, come out, and truck won't start. hmmm. click click, click, click. radio works, windows work, sirius works. hmmm, must be starter. last few days, it has been acting up. or so i thought. well, had a mechanic from the base (air force) come over, and he says yea, your starter is bad dude. ok, go to exchange, get a hammer, tap solenoid(sp) nothing. call work, have a ride come get us. when he gets there we try jumping it. nothing. (ride is a navy mech) he says starter as well. so i call wife, get extended warranty involved. tow truck comes. (free tow and repair if it is starter). he says lets jump it. i say, no way, it's done man, tow the damn thing. he says no. he jumps it and wham, it starts. dead batt. hmmm......well, to my embarrasment(sp) it was the batt. i had to pay for a tow, plus a new batt, which i got the red top, and had the privelage of feeling like an *** clown that knows nothing about engines when the tow truck guy said lets jump it. morale of the story is, when your truck won't start, check the batt. even if the green light is still green as hell, check the batt..... this is just my two cents. sorry so long. oh yea, found out my extended warranty company went bankrupt. so the dealership is taking all work till a new company can be found. hmmm, scandel....

I agree man. The battery/alternator/starter problems are confusing as hell. On older vehicles the when the battery was low, the starter would at least TRY to turn, but on these trucks it doesn't even try, it just clicks like that. I know how you feel

i had almost exactly 75K on mine. and yes, i have three days to relax. of course tomorrow will be a track day, (If you call that relaxing) but normally, green light means go but in most cases i found out, that is something put there for the consumer to feel good about....i had i think 4 people tell me that. the last person of course being the batt salesman himself. lol

How much does the Optima battery weigh? Remember that guy selling the electric supercharger was talking about 15# batteries? I wonder if they are worth a **** because my battery now probably weighs 50#.
