Default does you trans do this??

Well ever since we've been having cold weather (35 degrees and below) When I start up the truck I let it warm up for about 10 minutes. When I drive off first gear shifts a little hard. Then second gear takes a while to shift (about 3100rpms) Each gear takes a while to shift. The rpms will keep climbing higher then it will shift. its like I have it in first gear for each gear. They shift around 3k rpms. Once the truck has warmed up and I've driven a while the trans starts to shift fine. Is it just because the trans is cold and its having trouble shifting? Anyone had this problem? Thanks

Mine does the same thing. It takes quite some time for the converter to lock when it gets cold out as well. I hope its not a sign of the tranny going out. I was hoping to get a little more time out of it.

Its perfectly fine, mine does the same exact thing. My dad truck also does it to and its a 98. I was told (and dont quote me on this) that like greentahoe said the fluid needs time to warm up, and I was told that the trans doesnt start to function right until a full warm up becasue it takes some type of readings from the temp when it rises. I like you freaked out, beacuse I was driving down the highway and it wouldnt go into over drive, the rpms just kept climbing, I just kept it around 65 and when it hit around 190 degrees the rpms dropped and it went into OD on itself. Its totally fine.

I just drive very gently till the tranny warms up, i got like a mile or so till i get to the freeway to and from work, and such, so it usually warms up by then. Most people think that once the engine is warm, all is well and stomp on it, but your tranny, and rear end still are cold, and they would like to warm up also.

Mine does it when its cold. You should feel it with my Nelson tune and trans-go, you will get whiplash when it shifts. I have to take it easy for a few miles when I start it.
