Default Decisions Decisions, What would you do?

I was registered @ LS1tech b/c I had a 98 T/A 6spd and well THAT SITE IS UNBEATABLE,lol. Anywho, I wanna get back in the truck seen again I had a 94 GMC Sierra 350TBI that had some work done when I was in high school and well I miss it but after having the T/A I see how much better the LS genereation engines are. The thing is I want a truck but I want it in a manual I know the 4.8 has the only manual option. The tricky thing is I want it to be a 6spd . Ok so do I get a :

99-04 RCSB 5.3 Auto and then convert to a 6spd
or
99-04 RCSB 4.8 5spd and then eventually convert it

What do u guys think? Autos are nice but i like the manual tranny better(especially a 6spd I miss my T/A )

Depends on how much work you want to do. If you're planning on swapping motors like Injected said, then I would go with the 4.8/5-speed, a little less fab work to be done. If you don't want to swap motors, I'd definitely go with the 5.3 and just accept that it's gonna take a little more work to do. IMO, the extra cubes in the 5.3 would be worth it.

There are several members who have done T-56 swaps.

vanillagorilla, 1truess, xrevx1, mjhoward, and retsell have done it, maybe more.

Here's some good threads to check out...

Do a search for T56 swap and you will find lots of info.

Thanks yea I was just looking to see what you guys think would be the easiest route. Honestly the 4.8 5spd would be a good buy to satisfy my shifting craving while I get everything together but I cant even find 1 single 4.8 5spd RCSB anywhere. When I wasnt looking into getting one they were everywhere though, go figure huh . thanks

mjhoward started with a 4.8/5 speed and swapped it for a T-56. You might try sending him a PM and see how much had to be changed out to accomodate the new tranny.

seems that the t56 swap from a 4l60e would be prettu difficult. work on finding the 4.8 5speed and do that way
