Default Day-Time Running Lights on a Canadian Truck

So I was told at the dealership today that because my truck was manufactured in Canada there is no way to dissable the DRL's. Even with pushing the dome override 4 times. I thought they could go into the computer with the Tech2 and change that stuff? They are doing my door locks on monday but they said there is no way to do the DRL's. Is there something I can swap out so I can do this? Or am I screwed on that deal?

Not sure if it's due to it being Canadian, but I know for sure that the dome light trick doesn't work on 99's. You could always just remove the DRL fuse located under the hood.

damn canadians... i dont think it has anything to do with where it was manufactured, i just like saying that tho.

but... ya 99's dont have it where u can turn off your drl's
i thought it was in the computer.. bc the light switch panel is the same in the 99's as it is in the 01's

I'm pretty sure Canada has required vehicles to havee DRLs for several years now, so if the truck was manufactured for Canada, there may not be a over ride other than the fuse, even on newer trucks

Yep, thats what I was told.

I dont want them to be permanantly off, I just want the automatic headlights to be able to turn off at night. Like when we go look at christmas lights I dont want to be driving around the neighborhood with my lights on, just the parking lights. That and there are several other times that i wish I could just have control of the headlights. without have to shut off my truck, set the e-brake a little and then startis back up and list to the frikken dinging it makes when you drive and the idiot light blinking in the dash.

I made my headlights fully manual by replacing the ambient light sensor (photodiode) with an led...I no longer have the automatic function though, if that's something you like. Got the led at Radio Shack for less than $2 and wired it in right at the BCM which is under the driver's side dash. Took all of 5 minutes to do. If I remeber correctly, there was an old thread where I posted the schematic.

I thought GM was putting DRL's in all their vehicles now? Anyway DRL's have been the law in Canada since the 1990 model year. Reason was Highway visibility. Most vehicles had a DRL module that you could replace with one that would be manually operated instead of automatically. I don't think the computer controls these lights??? They activate once the parking brake is released. Maybe you could find the wire that does this and put a switch in it? You just want to make sure the parking brake light will still work. I've done some work on older vehicles where this was an easy fix but I haven't tried it on newer vehicles. The Oshawa Ontario plant builds trucks for sale around the world. It doesn't matter where your truck was built, however it matters where it was to be sold.

ya.. they are on all the vehicles.. we are just trying to figure out why certian trucks dont have the turn off feature...

and the parking brake thing brings up a good point... if you dont end up doing what bud said by the time you look at xmas lights.. just push the parking brake down untill the light comes on, on the dash (the brake wont be engaged) and than you can turn your parking lights on only... its okay to drive around like that.. i do that in the 99 suburban all the time.
