Default Cruise control issues

Can someone tell me why my cruise control doesn't work very often if at all. The light doesnt even come on inside the cab when turned on and pushing the button. Not a big deal, just curious.

Put your foot BEHIND the brake pedal and pull the brake pedal towards you as hard as you can and then try to set the cruise. If it works, then you have your brake switch out of adjustment. Chances are your TQ converter isn't locking up either. These usually go out of adjustment if you do a hard panic stop and bend the pedal. I did this once in my roadmaster after doing a panic stop the cruise nor TQ convertor would lock up. I just reached under the dash and pushed the switch closed to the pedal to readjust it. Check that out and let us know.

Since the light on the dash isn't coming on, I think it's something other than the brake light switch. If something in the brake light circuit was bad, you could still turn the cruise on and see the light on the dash, but it wouldn't activate. You could have a bad switch, or possibly the wiring from the switch is open in the steering column somewhere. Other possibilities include BCM issues, but I'd check the wiring and switch first. I know that open wires are common in the steering column/wheel area of these trucks.

I have a similar problem with the tow/haul button. It works maybe 10% of the time when I randomly try it. If you figure it out, let me know.

I had that problem too....turned out to be a broken wire in the brake switch harness. I also have a code thrown, but I don't remember which one it was.

I'd say it's probably the Multifunction Switch. The button in the end of your Turn Sig. lever usually ends up having a worn contact inside. After repeadted usage....same as the Tow Haul switch...same contacts in each one. The GM part number is 12450067.

On the other hand however we have replaced a couple of Cruise Control Modules...but they exibited diffrent symptoms that what you are.

Get me your VIN and I'll see if I can get you a Module number.

I had some issues with my cruise, and after all sorts of wire chasing I went to the slavage yard yanked a cruise module off the fire wall of another truck and low and behold it worked. Yours is working intermittenly, and mine just quit altogether. I'm sure the cruise module could give you the problems you are having, but check over the rest of the wires just to make sure.

My cruise just stopped working. It worked perfectly yesterday on the way home (I NEVER had an issue before). This morning, nada. No light on, no engaging, nothing.

The fuse is good, and the speedo is working so that rules out the speed sensor. I installed an LED 3rd brake light last night but that shouldn't be an issue (right?). I already had LED bulbs in the brake tail lights.
