Ok, sorry if these seem like n00b questions but I am trying to gather up some information about a 4L80e drivetrain (specifically 4wd).
Ok, in looking over the information I have been able to come up with in the search function it appears that a 6.0L 4L80E is avaliable on the 2500 and 3500 Series trucks.
I have found various information on the HD 4L80E which is referred to as an MN8 which may be a a 4L85E (but still checking into that one).
What I have not been able to find is if there was ever a 2500 RCSB 4x4 avaliable. Thats not a super hot issue, but from what I have been able to find on this site it was not an option.
It appears on the 4wd units there are manual and auto units, and there is even a divorced case. Now, are all of those factory units? Any particular one better than the others?
If you were to retrofit a 4WD drivetrain into another automotive platform, is one going to have more clearance (both floorpan and ground) ? Can the independant unit for instance be clocked slightly to move it around a bit.
What is avaliable to lower a 4wd truck?
If you swap a complete 6.0L/4L80E into a RCSB 4x4 then all you need to do is follow some of the swap threads on this site...

1. You're right, there was never a 2500 RCSB available in any configuration.
2. I do believe the manual 4wd units are the strongest of the bunch. I do not think the divorced case you are talking about is a factory unit although I don't know for sure.
3. Not sure on clearance issues with the transfercases but, it makes since that a divorced case could move around some.
4. If you are talking about lowering a 1500 4wd there are spindles available as well as torsion bar keys.
5. Yeah, plenty of people have done the swap you are talking about so there should be plenty of info floating around here to help.
What sorta project is this gonna be.

The 4l80 and married t-case will fit under the 1500 body. Here is a link with info and torque ratings on the new venture t-cases.
