Default Common 1500HD issues to look out for?

Hey all,

After a while of looking I found a nice 1500HD crew with every option but a moonroof and I'm likely to buy it this week. I'll be using it for a short commute to work and then for towing my car+trailer (57xx lbs) to the track and back... I know the 6.0 and 4L80 are usually fine for this use but I'm curious what else I should be looking for when I check this thing out?

This could be Silverado-specific issues that don't necessarily have to do with the "HD" etc - Like what commonly goes in the interior? electronics? lighting? etc

Much appreciated!!

Interior is blend door actuators in the HVAC stop calibrating or moving, stepper motors failing in the instrument cluster, questionable "leather" seats tearing coupled with seat heaters that like to melt the connector under the seat. The digital HVAC head unit likes to screw up too and increase temp when you are decreasing and so on. The bearing in the bottom of the steering column like to rattle as does the intermediate shaft to the power steering box This is the stuff you will find in trucks that are at newest 12 years old lol.

Powertrain the worst is the transfer case rubbing a hole through the case because the oil pump falls apart. The 246s all do it in time... Otherwise its the usual GM cooler line leaks, front diff axle seals and maintenance parts. Depending on the service history and the miles on it will determine the issues you have. I mean brake pads like to rattle in the calipers too which a lot of people misdiagnose as something else.

Be aware the 1500HD is a pain to buy parts for... even punching in the vin at GM is wrong lol. You are better off asking for 2500 or 2500HD parts for almost everything. The rear rotors have the 4.63" bore and not the 4.84" bore but the rest is the same a 2500HD down to the wear components in the front.

Check all the usual suspects... brakes, shocks, hub bearings, leaks etc. Check for frame rot at the back on the shock mounts and brake and fuel line rot if that's an issue in your part of the planet.

I'm still driving my 05 1500HD but I am starting to hate it lol. I really need to get one of my other trucks ready for work duty. I'm getting sick of dailying a 200 some hundred thousand mile truck when I have no reason to be and have 2 more with under 40000 miles to use instead.
