ok i found more info on this block.. they said 2006 suburban so late 05 i bet. they pulled the engine because the oil light was coming on and off so they said oil pump could be bad or spun a rod or main bearing. i took all the main caps off and they look good i will check rods when i get more time. the main thing i wanted to know is if it was a 5.3 and you have ben alot of help. thank you!
Could have been a couple things, the Barbel in the back of the block, the o-ring at the pump pick up, or a cam bearing could have spun and become miss aligned blocking the flow of oil. You know once you get it apart.

Usually when a rod bearing goes there is evidence on the main bearings.
These types of oil pumps don't generally go bad, but it has happened. Usually there is something else like poor maintence that causes it though...

Good deal. If you dont find a cause upon tear down. Make sure you Check all the oil passages before you clean and replace everything. Wouldn't want to find a blockage the hard way...

So you are swapping a generation 3 5.3 into a Gen 4 equipped 2010 truck? Your knock sensors and crank trigger are different between those two unless you already know this and are dealing with it accordingly.... Or should I say will as this is just a backup engine if I am reading this correctly.
