i am with turbogibbs. the rollbar i have reduced driveability more than anything i have done to the truck. i race it at the track all the time so really had no choice but for something less extreme i would try and avoid it.

my side bars are too low to be legal but i have been to at least 10 diferent tracks and no one has even looked. they look for things like the snell rating on the helmet, date on belts and shut off switch.

seems like my bar was $1200. that was completely installed, painted, lexan rear window installed, harness installed.

some of the compromises. it squeeks where it goes thru the floor to the frame. it squeeks where it goes thru the back window. rain can get thru the back window. the cab moves a lot where the bar does not so it is hard to seal up. the factory seats are thick and with the bar behind them are a little too far forward. i am 5'8" and it is slightly cramped. if you are any taller it wouldnt work at all.

What about swingout/removable door bars?

If it's any consolation, I'm at the same crossroads Quik. I REALLY don't wanna cut up my truck for a cage. I wish we didn't have to go through the back window.

I'm 6' and I think the reg cab is too cramped with no bar. It would be undrivable if I had to scoot the seat up a couple inches with a clutch.

my door bars are removeable but they really are not in the way so i dont mess with it.

you can see the scratches on the roll bar where it goes thru the window. the cab moves almost an inch at launch .

OK, here's a restart on this old thread.

I drive a regular cab Dakota, which is considerably smaller inside than the GMs. I'm 6'2". In order to get the room I needed for the rollbar and me at the same time I had to go to a set of racing seats and also put the rollbar above the headliner. This worked out very well. My only issue with the rollbar is the side bar. Initially it was a PITA to get past but once I learned how to enter/exit correctly it's no problem at all. Having a tilt wheel helps also.

After reading about the squeeking and cab movement Parish had on his truck, I added plates and sandwiched the floor. The rollbar is still mounted directly to the frame but the plates hold the cab from moving. Now I have no squeeks and very little movement. I do however get more driveline vibration in the cab, but it's mainly while going thru the traps.

Here's some pics of the rollbar install (along with some others, but I didn't feel like moving pics).

What if you replaced the factory rubber cab mounts with solid mounts to reduce the cab moving around?
