Default A/C compressor clutch not engaging

Great time for the A/C to go out, now that temps have reached the90s

Anyways, the clutch is not engaging. I attempted to command the clutch with EFI live, and it still would not activate. The A/C did act funny the past couple of years, it still worked great, but the clutch would cycle very often and had harsh engagement. I was suspicious that it was low on refridgerant with how often it was cycling.

What should be the next step (that I can do at home). Replace the AC relay? Jump the low pressure switch? Does the fact that I cannot command the clutch with the scan tool indicate an electrical problem or in fact the compressor itself has gone bad?

Yes, I did check to make sure my A/C belt was still intact

Thanks!

check the fuse
check power at the relay
check the relay
check the wires from the relay to the Compressor

I am working on a similar problem with mine. Went to fill the refrigerant last weekend and no response from the compressor...will be working on it this weekend.

10A A/C fuse is good.

I still need to check power at the relay.

Tried jumping the low side and clutch didn't come on

I haven't had time to look at it recently due to work. BUt I am highly suspicious that the compression clutch took a ****, just with the fact that it was cycling so rapidly and engaging so harshly over the past couple years. I really do need to check to see if power is getting to the clutch though. Not being able to command the clutch on with efi live or by jumping the low pressure switch makes me think it's something with the compressor itself, although it certainly could be electrical.

Supposed to hit around 100 F sometime early next week.

Took it to an A/C shop this morning.

Interestingly enough, the compressor is only getting 5 volts. Relay is good.

He put 12volts to the compressor and it came on and it's cooling well. So in a way it's good news no need to replace the compressor, but I do need to track down the electrical problem.

I'm actually more of a roll the window down type of person. It's my GF that's been really complaining about the lack of A/C

The only time I really used it last year was in June when it was 105-115. It's a must then
