Default Burning Oil?

I got the "Check engine oil level" light a few minutes ago and sure enough my oil was at the very bottom of the dipstick. I have no visible oil leaks and the driveway is clean. Why would I be using oil all of a sudden? I'm due for an oil change in 2 weeks and it has been about 3 months and 3500 miles since the last. My truck had 66K miles on it so I figured it should not be burning oil already, should it? Does the computer notice if it is only a qt. low or does the bottom of the stick mean I am missing a few quarts? If it's not leaking, it must be burning up somewhere. Any ideas? Mods in sig but don't think that is an issue. I have not modded anything in months and this the first time I've seen this light. Maybe the service station didn't quite get enough in there during the last change?

I had this same exact thing happen to me just recently. With no visible level on th edipstick, it took 1 qt to get back to normal operating level. I had just changed my PCV valve last oil change, and think thats my problem. If it doesn't go away, it may be time for a 6.0 . I don't feel like chasing the problem down

Check your PCV. I don't know how the Radix is set up but on the STS there's a preasure switch in the PCV line that close when it see 1# boost so you don't pressurize the base and vent the pcv to the atmosphere.

I had the same thing happen to my '02, about 2 years ago. Weird - I had about 60k something miles too. Although, I missed an oil change it only took a quart to fill 'er up again. I have noticed that my oil pressure has been reading higher ever since. It used to read at 60 psi, now it sits at around 65 psi. It's been 2 years and I haven't had any problems, but that I think that "tapping lifter" is nosier.

Put in a qt and everything seems fine. I guess I will cjeck out the PCV when I get time. When I started the truck to go get the oil, the light didn't come back on but I only went 1/2 mile so maybe it didn't have time to read it. Weird.

My truck uses about a quart every 1,000 miles, so you are lucky in that regard. They say that these LS1's are notorious for using oil, I have changed the pcv to the fixed oriface style, and it didn't help much. I have a oil consumption test going on right now with the dealership to see if I can get the problem fixed. I also have no visable oil leaks and my truck does not smoke. My truck started this at about 45,000 miles, I now have 55,000 on it.
