Got that fixed and now my heat works fine. My memory buttons are flaky though. Sometimes they work and sometimes they remember whatever they want for the seat settings which usually puts me eating the steering wheel or trying to get out real fast before I get squished. I don't use them much, but occasionally my wife gets to drive the truck.

Yes both seats do the same thing. When I push the heater button on either side either they will work fine, or for a few seconds, or not at all.....its hit or miss on what it does. Memory buttons do not work at all. I can set the buttons (hold them in for a few seconds until the double beep) but the seats never move back to where they should or where they were set to be. I am pretty sure its a communication issue with the seat module since the truck is an 2004 (Class II Serial Data) and the seat module is from a 2006 truck which uses a diffferent communication method. I just think its a communication issue.

Got some updates for anyone who is following the saga.......

I installed a new seat module and BCM today and here is what i found:

First I installed the seat module and reinstalled the seat. That did not solve my intermitent seat heat problem or the memory problem.....a.k.a. no change.

Then I installed the BCM.

When I installed the BCM i immediatly tried the memory buttons and they both functioned perfectly. The seats and mirrors all moved. I then ran through the DIC info and found new items such as "easy exit driver seat" and "curb assist"....they both worked as well. I then tried to start the truck and found that i needed to do the security relearn procedure...which I did. Once i did that and the truck started I found the following problems. The radio was locked and the airbag light was on. I then tried the heated seats and they had the same problem. They would come on for a few seconds then kick off.

Summary:

1. I need a new heated seat element in one of the seats and the heat part should work fine.
2. The new BCM would need to be programed with my VIN to unlock the radio.
3. Memory part of the seats definately goes through the BCM to store position.
4. Airbag light was on.....dont have a clue about that one.

---I have a theory about the airbag issue but I am not 100%. The BCM came out of a half ton platform truck (2003 escalade) which uses a dual stage airbag system. My truck is a 3/4 ton which uses a single stage airbag. If the airbag info goes throuh the BCM that may be the cause of the light on the dash.

So there you have it.

Torque wrench,
If you think you guys have the ability to copy my current VIN into this new BCM let me know. Also, if you think you guys would be able to program my current BCM with the heated leather seat option and the other goodies that i noticed when I put this new BCM in please let me know and I will take a ride down there and we can play with this thing. Please let me know as i would love to get this working.

Moving right along here......

I am pretty sure that the air bag light is due to the 1/2 vs. 3/4 ton platform differences in the airbag system. I plan on swapping the BCM out of my other truck which is also a 3/4 ton and see if that resolves the airbag light. If it does then I know i can pick up a BCM from a 3/4 ton Yukon Denali which should be loaded like the escalade BCM i put in. So that would leave me with a locked radio as my only issue. So that begs a couple more questions....

1. With the PCM and BCM having different VINs, how would you unlock the radio? Is there a way to pull the VIN # out of the BCM with the tech 2 and program the radio with that?

2. Would I be better off just trying to load the options I want into my current BCM rather than trying different ones?

3. when can I go down and visit Torque Wrench?

Ahhh seems the PCM is not handshaking with the BCM because of haveing 2 diffrent VIN's. As I have just talked with my Shop Foreman, it would appear that ther eis no easy fix and this may require some "headscratching". I'm not for certain that trying to program your VIN into the BCM will fix the problem. It may unlock your radio but then you'll be back to square one, not having the Memory Heated seat functioning properly. I think....that ther eis no way around this. Let me do some more research on it.

If the RPO code information stays in the BCM and only the VIN changes then programming the BCM I just bought with my VIN should work (aside from the airbag issue). But if there is an image of "what options my truck is supposed to have" that goes along with programming the VIN into the BCM....then you are right. The question would be then.....can you add options to a particular VIN image? I think the easiest way to do this would be for someone to just add the options to the existing BCM. That way the VINs would match and everything would be fine. I had a dealer localy add the redundant steering wheel control option (RPO code UK6 I think) to my BCM in order to activate the functions and everything went fine. I think the bottom line here is this...

Is it possible to add options to the BCM of a vehicle that did not come with them from the factory?

.....and to take it one step further.....

Is it possible to add options to the BCM of a vehicle that were not avaiable to that particular model? Heated memory seats were not available in a regular cab like mine....but they were in an extended cab.

I cant image the BCM knows whether its in an extended cab or regular cab though. Is it possible to just add options to the BCM then?

Are you familiar with how the BCM is programmed? Is it done in the form of an "image" of all the options or is it done on a line by line basis? Is it as simple as just adding a line to the options list in the BCM?
