Default 96 GMC 1500 with issues

Sup guys!

I have a 96 GMC 1500, that's giving me issues. Firstly, when the truck is running good, it purrs like a kitten... it's so quiet, I sometimes go to start it, thinking it's off.

With that said, the issue I want to address today is going WOT. When it hits 3000 to 4000 RPMs, it just revs, as if it's in neutral. Normal driving, I'm ok, I'll hit 80mph, but if I punch it, it just revs.

I hope that makes sense.

Thanks!

Sounds like a slipping transmission.

No, the trans works great! Goes into all gears, no prob. Shifts in and out of OD no prob. The only time this rev issue happens is when I punch it and it hits 3/4K rpm. I was wondering if it could be the TQ verter.

It can shift great at low rpms and slip under heavy load. Sounds like a slipping trans still if you ask me.

Either drive it at low rpms everyday untill it dies or remove it and start inspecting parts to figure out the cause.

Sounds like burnt clutches or an internal trans leak... Torque converter wont necessarily cause issue youre talking about...
