hey guys new to the forum and got a few questions just picked up a 99 rcsb z71 with a 5.3 now ive been around ls motors for awhile but this is the first ls powered truck i got the truck because im a sucker for these ls based motors and been wanting to start a go fast truck project for a while so finally bit the bullet and picked one up so heres my first question any body ever threw a set of 6.0 vortec heads on the 5.3 found a set off a 2001 for crazy cheap and just wonder if it would be worth doin the head swap or are they just boat anchors thanks for any input guys

 

Nope no performance gain. The 317 heads have bigger chambers and will drop compression. You want to find a set of 243 or 799 heads.

 

243? ls2 heads? might be able to get a good deal on a set of ls2 heads off a 06 gto my dad is doing h/c swap in about a week if i use those can i still use the vortec intake or do i have to switch to the ls style intake

 

If you're going to do the head swap and want to do an intake swap too then do a tbss or nnbs intake.

 

You can use either intake as the LS2 also has cathedral port heads.

 

is there any advantages to the tbss or nnbs intake over say the stock ls2 intake

 

Avoid the LS2 car intake. The stock truck intake does OK.
