Default 454 Block numbers

I searched some of the threads and the links were dead. Can anyone tell me what the specs are on this 454 I have?

The # above the oil filter is K 19 445

The drivers side above transmission mounting surface is 14015445

Head casting 14081045 the # 34 stamped on it. GM 8 CFD

On the passenger side rear of block 445 is stamped backwards with M IV Hi Perf stamped on the block.

Intake # 14087487

Can anyone tell me the hp/tq # on this motor?

It is a GM 7.4. Its stamped a few times on the block.

Trying to decide whether or not to put in my truck or the Impala...

Thanks in advance. Needing to fill my need for speed..

Thanks guys. Mortec for some reason not working for me. I still didn't see hp/tq ratings for what I have. It will happen one day, lol!

Default in the Dark too...

We have called Chevy and done hours of research but still no answer. We have a 1964 El Camino with an engine that is not original. We know the engine is a 454 but that is about it. The casting number is 14015445 and there is also a K078 and a series of numbers that reads K23
445 Perf Pass 7.4. We have had some inklings but no agreement on the year this engine was made so we can't order parts we need to get it back on the road.

Chevy told us they did not have the casting number at all. A Chevelle site indicated built 1978-1990 for lt. truck. Everyone seems to agree it is a Mark IV engine. The K078 may be the date built - K=Nov. 7=7th day and 8 means a year ending in 8. Hope this helps you.

1401544 1975-87 454 4 bolt mains (casting number may also be 14015445)

I've seen some people claim this block was used in trucks and motorhomes. I can't seem to find a definitive answer on power, but it was probably 230 hp.

Just doing a little research, which with info this dated I’m sure some of the info could be mistaken, but using the numbers you provided this is what I came up with.

Block: 14015445 – 78 to 90, 2 or 4 bolt mains
Heads: 14081045 – 78 to 87, Open Chamber 454
Intake Manifold – GM 454, Peanut Port Cast Iron, Quadrajet

To nail down the application and horsepower rating you will need to identify the Engine Suffix Code, which is stamped on a block pad located immediately forward of the right hand or passenger side cylinder head. The entire engine code contains the assembly plant, month and day.

While there could have been some swapping going on with an engine this old, if it is original you can sort of narrow it down to at least the years the heads were available.

1978 Truck Engine Suffix Codes: TRF, TRH, TRK, TRL, TRM, TRY, TSB, TSF, TSH, TSJ, TSS, TST = 250hp, Engine Code LF-8 VIN S, 20, 30

1979 Truck Engine Suffix Codes: AUA, AUB = 245hp, Engine Code L-42 VIN S, 70

1980 Truck Engine Suffix Code: TRR, TRS, TRU, TRZ = 205hp, Engine Code LF-8 VIN S, 10, 20, 30

1980 Truck Engine Suffix Code: TRT, TRW, TRX = 210hp, Engine Code LF-8 VIN S, 20, 30

1981 Truck Engine Suffix Code: TRK, TRL, UCA, UCB, UCD = 210hp, Engine Code LE-8 VIN W, AR, 20, 30

1982 Truck Engine Suffix Code: TKA, TKC, TKD, TKF, TKH = 210hp, Engine Code LE-8 VIN W, 20, 30

1983 Truck Engine Suffix Code: UBA, UBB, UBC, UBD, UBF, UBH = 230hp, Engine Code LE-8 VIN W, 20, 30

1984 Truck Engine Suffix Code: ??????

1985 Truck Engine Suffix Code: AKA, AKB, AKC, AKD, AKF, AKJ, AKK, AKM, AKN, AKR = 240hp, Engine Code LE-8 VIN W, 20, 30

Additional 1985 Truck Engine Suffix Code: TZB, TZC, TZD, TZF, TZG, TZH, TZJ, TZK, TZL, TZM = 240hp, Engine Code LE-8 VIN W, 20, 30

1986 Truck Engine Code: AKS, AKT, AKU, AKW, AKX, AKY, AKZ, ALA, ALB, ALC, ALD, ALH = 240hp, Engine Code LE-8 VIN W, 20, 30

1987 Truck Engine Code: ALK, ALS, ALX, ALY = 230hp, Engine Code L-19 TBI VIN N, 20, 30
