Default 2500hd vs 1500 W/6.0, 4l80e

i was think, how much extra weight does the thicker frames of the HD have?

wouldn't it be easier to just buy a 2500 rather then doing the swaps?

ummm yes, theres a 2500 and a 2500HD, the 2500 doesnt have the larger frame, its basicly a 1500 with factory 6.0, 4l80e 9.25 front and 10.5 rear DIFFS basicly factory Highperformace platform ( for us upgrading types), the HD is the heavy sombitch. im actually wondering 2 how much more the HD frame weighs, I know my allison trans is a fat horsepower sucking pig, wish I had a pumped desiel to use its torque rating.

Well, close.

the 1500HD/2500 have 9.25 front diff, 4L80e, and 9.5" SF rear end. And the frame is larger than a 1500 series frame, but smaller than a 2500HD frame.

2500HD = 9.25 front, 4L80e, 10.50 FF rear end (if 6.0L), 11.50 FF (if 8.1 or Duramax).

Yep.

According to the Chevy website a 2wd 1500 RCSB is 4225lbs. There is no RCSB 2500HD.

1500 RCLB is 4360lbs, a 2500HD RCLB is 5177lbs.

So there is nearly a 1000lb difference between the lightest 1500 and lightest 2500. That is pretty substantial if your trying to make a fast truck.

The 1500HD only comes in Crew Cab so that's out, and 2500's (without HD) are no longer made.

My ECSB 2500HD 4x4 started it's life weighing 5664lbs, with the lift, big tires fiberglass tonneau etc, I am well over 6,000lbs,!!. You will add weight to a 1500 by swapping in the HD parts but I think it would still be substantially lighter.

Probably so. If we are talking 2wd ExtraCabs the difference might be less though.

My 2500HD Extra Cab 2wd is 5450lbs, how does that compare?

How much do the SS's weigh?

2wd ECSB 1500 is 4617
2wd ECSB 2500HD is 5404

800lb difference.

No info on the SS weight on the site, my guess would be that it weighs about the same as a 1500 4x4 which is right at 5000lbs.

I guess the key with the ECSB's weight differences would be to figure out how much of that is from the beefier parts and how much is from frame and suspension pieces. You would deffinetely be adding weight to a 1500 with a 4L80, and the HD rearend swap, but probably not mare than a couple hundred lbs, I bet the 6.0 doesn't weigh much different than a 5.3.
