You can get rid of it in the tune = void warranty

You can remove all the AFM parts as well for a perminate solution.

Do all the 2011+ have that standard on the 5.3's? Just heard some horror story's from my buddies at the shop with heads and what not issues.

I think there is a DOD Delete kit out there for what your looking for. My '08 has the AFM and it takes a while to get used to it switching from 4 to 8cyl. It sounds like the trans is slipping when it switches with my exhaust.

Unless you are going to do a cam swap it's best to leave it alone. They fail here and there but overall they are reliable. The early 07-08's were the worst years. You can disable it in the tune and it may or may not eradicate the problem simply because the lifter stays pumped up all the time.

The reason it sounds rampant on the board here and others is because we are a extremely small cross section of consumers who buy modify and run the pee whiney dog **** out of our rides. If theres a weak spot we are going to find it. Or as my dad said when I was younger and in my dukes of hazard general lee pedal car "boy you could tear up a steel ball bare handed.."

My 2011 5.3 Silverado does not have AFM. If it does I experience none of the symptoms as described while driving. However, according to my tune file DOD is enabled.

They all have AFM and VVT you can't get a 5.3 without it.
