Default 2002 2500hd starts when battery is connected??

Like the title states I have a truck that has been sitting outside for about 9 months with the battery disconnected. When I connected the battery the truck started to crank and actually started running but the kicker is the mets were in my pocket outside! Any ideas what could have happened? It does have an aftermarket remote start system which could have something to do with it but what would cause the starter to crank?

Could have an issue with the starter solenoid/starter circuit, strange things happen to electrical items when left unused for a period of time. You also could have an issue with the remote start system, try removing the fuses that power the module for the remote with the battery disconnected and then hook the battery back up and see what happens. Or you remove the power wire to the starter and hook up the battery and check for "hot" wires that's shouldn't be on when the key is off. Don't forget to check the starter relay for being stuck

Thanks for the feedback. Do you know if these vehicles have the VATS or immobilizer systems? I was thinking the remote start system also as they would probably bypass the VATS if the vehicle has one and I would think they would have a relay or electronics switch (BJT or FET) they would use to close he circuit between the coil and capacitor when a valid signal comes in. If that is the case then this would make sense. Remember, this truck not only turns over when I connect the battery but also starts and runs with no key in the ignition and the ignition is turned off!

Flip the valet switch gor the remote start, the remote start is kicking over when you reconnect the battery, its actually designed to.... Kind of a pain, but have an avital remote start in my 99 and its does same thing whenever i dosconnect the battery have to remember to kill the valet switch... Should have been mounted under the dash somewhere... The installer should have mounted a red and white warning label that say something about killing it when working with the battery

I was just looking at a car that had an aftermarket remote start and there was a sticker next to the battery warning that the remote start system would activate when the battery is hooked up. Remove the aftermarket junk and enjoy life.

^^^^^^^ this right here,

only auto start I would want is OEM. It saves time wasted on trouble shooting
