(here's a novel for ya)
About, lets say, 4 months ago, I had put in some TR6s.......after puttin them in, truck ran real smooth, no probs what so ever for several months...... During this period of time, I took the truck in to get "complete" maintenance at the dealership........basically like a 30,000 mile check up......(I do miss having a garage <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" /> )
However, past month, I have been noticing some "motor spasms", nothing big, felt like simple miss-fires (just quick jolts, every so often, usually only at idle)......... I figure, a plug has just gone bad, no biggie, I'll change em soon.......I go to a friends to clean the filter/truck etc..... I notice the damn CAI arm is partially off the TB.......I am thinkin, WTF? Turns out, it happened at the dealership (one to two weeks before, cuz they cleaned the TB)....and well, they didn't connect it right......Ofcourse this did not make me happy at all....Nothing I can REALLY do about it though....... Naturally I assumed since the CAI arm was off, that what was messing with the computer and causing the "motor spasms".... Anyway, I reset the computer, re-program, and go my own way.....
Turns out, the truck is still having these "spasms"......I figure well, ok, time to change these plugs anyway..........I put in a new set of TR55s, (old plugs looked normal)......and, on the way home, I notice that my truck is idling worse than it ever has before.......Wasn't REALLY bad, but the spasms were even more frequent.....and giving gas would cause more "halting spasms", and even a little backfire here and there......If I wasn't missfiring before, I'd go back and check these plugs etc....I always check every plug, wiring, etc, after I put my plugs in, and all was a go.
I'd love to have an auto tap right about now.....would save time and money......but the timing just isn't good......having to re-use my friends garage (I have the tools), taking out and re-checking all the plugs, is just not really an option right now. I'm gonna let the dealership mess with this one.......
BTW, the fuel filter was replaced about 3000 miles ago, I have to assume that is not the problem. I am almost positive it is a plug. Anyway, you can be sure i'll find out the problem from the dealership, and in the meantime, I'll be saving up cash for auto tap, so I won't have to go through this again.......
If you want, don't hesitate to throw your opinion etc.....input never hurts....

8 cylinders, 8 coils, right on top of your valve covers. There are so many things that could be causing that. If it got worse after you messed with the plugs, did you try changing wires ? Just another thing to check.

Alright, we'll here's the story...And yeah, the issue could have been so many different things, the wires, the plugs, could of been multiple plugs and wires.....I mean, really would have been a pain in the *** without auto tap or some engine monitor, checking each cylinder and all......So I said hell with it, and took it in, and its just as I thought pretty much....
Simple as a bad plug.......Took it in to the dealership, they checked it out.........and it turns out its just a simple bad plug. A plug must have gotten defected a long the way or something.....I mean, I'm sure it happens......I just know I didn't drop a tool box on one or anything lol. So the charges were gonna be 174, I just asked the service technician guy (who I have become to know) if he could just tell me what cylinder it was, and I'd replace it.
I'd definitely like to look into getting auto tap, or a similar program. Definitely would save me in issue like this in the future. Also, its kind of discouraging that the first set of plugs I get from O'reilly, one of them is bad. But hey, it happens.

Did you fix it yet? Or just get the diagnosis? So what he is saying, out of two sets of plugs, you had a bad one in each set and the second was worse. Not trying to bring you down but that's just bad luck man. The plug may be bad now, but when you change it let us know what happens.

I just got the diagnosis. It was just 1 plug out of the 8. The previous plugs I had (TR6s) worked fine, but about 3-4 months later I started noticing a little bit of missfire. Not nearly as bad as this time, not even close really. So basically, this set of 8 plugs apparently had 1 bad plug, the last set of plugs (the TR6s), worked fine, untill apparently a plug went bad. Like I said, I really want to get auto tap so I can know for sure for the future. I'll be changing the plug tomorrow, I'll let you know what happens.

Yeah, I'm definitely glad it wasn't anything more serious, or an issue liable to cause nasty damage quick. I am pickin up the truck today, I'll find out which cylinder it is.....but unfortunately I won't know what cylinder of the previous set was missfiring.

Hey I have an ATap, and if you have anymore problems down the road just let me know and we can try to set something up to where we can get it scanned for you. I can't promise you anything, but I will definitely try to help out my fellow truck guys.
