let me know when you become ASE certified then you will have something to legitimately argue until then i think you need to do more research on the effects of gear swaping.

pony killer - Where are you getting 3800 rpm from? ranwalk simply stated(in response to IM LOWR's question) that with his 4.10's and 29.4" tire he sees 2300rpm at 70mph. Like BigTex said, It doesn't matter what motor or shift points you have as long as the trans. ratio, tire height, and rear gear are the same that rpm/mph would be the same for any vehicle. What does 3800rpm have to do with that?

I'm thinking everybody is talking about different aspects of this thread and everything is getting mixed up?

John

If you check out the calculator at www.dirtroad.com/gears you will see that engine size has nothing to do with rpm's turned with a given gear ratio....it's tire size, gear ratio, and transmission ratio that dictate rpm's at a certain mph.

John what i'm getting at is were giving a guy advice to change his rear axle ratio, all i'm giving is the aspects to look at before he does this because we all know that there is no weight in the back of these trucks to make a 4.10 improve your launch in the 1/4 unless he likes to see tire smoke until he grabs traction, now if he was wanting to know if it would help him in his towing aspects I could not agree more.

ranwalk you are correct when you stated trans ratio, final gear ratio, plus mph = rpm. But if one of these factors are changed he will not see the same rpm. so if i'm in 3rd gear and he's in 4th gear at 70 mph i'm definately at ahigher rpm than he is.

once again, not trying to start a pissing match with you but if i get attacked i attack back. that's all.

not at you terminator but some of these guys need to learn both the possitive and negative effects on the parts they choose.

We're still talking about OD with 4.10's and rpm. NOT 3rd gear. We all know the engine will turn higher rpms at the same speed in a lower gear.

And 4.10's will give him a better launch at the track provided he has the tires for it.
