Who's hollowed cats on stock Y-pipe?
#1
I'm thinking on hollowing mine out for "test purposes only"
lol
Anyway... here's what I'm thinking...
Cut the pipe about 2-3" behind the cats (only with a sawzall). Unbolt the cat from the manifold. Proceed to remove substrate. Bolt cat back onto manifold. Wrap cut with heat resistant muffler wrap (don't wanna be too damned loud) and drive to an exhaust place ASAP.
Sound like a plan?

I've done it .... about the same thing you said you did in fact. If I were working on a stock or almost stock truck, then I wouldn't worry abou tit honestly, not unless you NEED the increased flow.
