Default Whipple pulley size ???

For a 5.3 engine, what is the stock pulley size? What other pullies are offered and how many #s of boost do each create? Whipples site is worthless.

I would like to get a compressor pulley that creates close to 7#s of boost.

Mine came with a 3 5/8 and it made right at 6 lbs maybe 6.5 at the 1-2 shift. I changed it to a 3 3/8 and now it is around 8 to 8.5 Whipples' site is useless and their tech people are useless. They make pullies in a wide range of sizes in 1/8in increments and they will tell you that each 1/8th inch equals 1.8lbs. I was wanting around 8 which is what I ended up with but if I had went with their suggestion (only change by 1/8) I woulda been p!ssed. If you want around 7 then a 3.5 would probably be about right.

That's a good point that there site is useless and there tech people arent that great either. When I bought my whipple their site was really good but they must have fired the person running it. I call there to order a pulley for my truck and they don't even know what size pulleys are in their kits. I don't have my truck near by, its sleeping for the winter. I am running about 7-7.5 psi at my 1-2 and average about 6.5-7psi. I want about 9-9.5. How is yours running with 8.5 L-EATER

Thanks L-Eater. How is your truck running?

I have decided to go with a 3 1/2" pulley. On Friday, I found out that the 3 5/8 was standard, so I went with 1 size smaller.

One thing thats kinda funny, my kit was made in '99. It says "for a 4.8, stock pulley is 3 1/8" and for a 5.3, the stock pulley is 3" even". I hope that was a misprint, or with the 3.5" pulley, I will be putting out about 3#s and be very unhappy.

BigTex aka Richard, let me know what you think of the whipple. I am waiting for a response from MagnaCharger but would like to see some before and after dyno's or time slips from someone with a Whipple...

And how was the install? did it go smoothly, are you happy with the looks, location of stuff ect... Customer service.. Fill us in.. I have my old head and cam corvette motor in my Yukon and am still waiting for a MagnaCharger and it looks like there may be delays...so should I consider a Whipple?

Hey Big Tex- My truck is dog off the line but it starts pulling pretty good about 30mph. I think I have finally figured it out-has to do with the electronic throttle-the pcm delays WOT even when I got it on the mat. It made 310 hp/388 tq the way it sits but I think there is more. I have some custom programming on the way-should be here any day-I will post as soon as I get it in.

Ripped427 aka Dennis, I haven't installed the Whipple yet. The instructions seem very easy. All I need is to figure out the proper pulley, get it sent to me, then I am on the road with it. I will definitely hit the dyno with it. Kit looks pretty good. You have to remove the valve covers then swap sides, so the oil fill is on the drivers side rear of the motor. This will free up the area on the pass side for the SC mount. The compressor feels about 50 lbs., I hope it puts out enough power to offset the weight.

L-Eater, who are you having do your PCM? I am pretty sure I want to get programming done. Remove rear O2s, EGR, torque management, etc. Please let me know how it all works out for you.

This thing better do what its supposed to do. My last Dyno showed 273 in 2nd gear. I have a cam, headers, and pretty open exhaust. I am adding electric fans this week. I may get one last dyno run (in 3rd gear) before I install the SC. I think I am getting close to 300 RWHP on motor.

DRM did my computer programing. I talked to Doug and he has same day turn around on them. Just the programing made a huge dif with the 5.3 He also did the programing for the install of my LS1 5.7 C5 Head and Cam motor. It runs very strong idles nice and no codes at all... I don't think he'd do programing for someone with mods he hasn't done in house (SC). He likes to test drive them and run them to make sure everything works right.

Depending on Tex's results I may opt for the Whipple. I talked to Magnason about the Eaton they have coming and was informed its two months out yet..
