Will - none of what I wrote was meant to shoot you down.
I wouldn't worry about going to big with the converter. Maybe a 3000 stall. My friends Dakota with a Kenne Bell blower would build all 8# of boost by around 3000rpm and hold it until he let off the gas. Don't worry about the power from the Whipple dropping off in the upper rpm range. It'll still pull hard but, the N20 will help cool the charge. I figure that 50shot you want to use will be more like a 100+/- shot by the time it cools down that 9psi charge from the Whipple.
You might just want to try the Whipple and N20 first and see if you can get 12's. If it gets you close the converter will definately get you there. I'm kinda partial to Yank converters and there PYE3400 seems like it would be good for your combo. I've never driven one of those but, hear they are not very loose and perform very well with power adders.
Just be careful. The Whipple is unintercooled? and 9psi is gonna make the charge air temp very high especially if the outside air temp is already high(Texas). The N20 will help but, if your not running it to cool down the air you could see problems. Run high octane gas(93 at least) and get it tuned in.
Figure on your trans. needing freshing up every once in a while and the possibility of a blown rear. I hate to say it but, I don't see a high probability of a long engine life either. Just things to keep in mind.
Good luck with your project. I hope you reach your goals.

Hey XL,
This is a normal everyday driver also. I am curious about the torque converter. How are they under everyday driving conditions? I don't wanna be sitting at a light and have to rev to 3400 before I even move!! My exhaust is pretty loud and it would get annoying to me if I had to rev that high ALL the time.

BTW, I am going with the 8.1L injectors for the whipple instead of their computer and with some LS1-Edit tuning. Do you think these injectors will be good for what I need to do?

Without goin into the motor.....I'd say, some 4:10s definitely......3000, or 3200 stall like XLR8 mentioned, possibly even higher......50 shot to be safe......As far as the whipple, I'd say 12#s (maybe a bit too high).....could intercool that S/C and spray it .......LS1 Edit, definitely, some long tubes, Thermo, UPD or K&N FIPK, new TB.....slicks......with that **** alone, you're lookin into 13s IMO......Lose the driverside seat, etc...So don't worry, its possible.....mid/low 12s though isn't easy without overdoing the gas....
Ofcourse, you could just spray the living **** out of it off the line lol.....But until then, i'd be careful on sprayin off the line without a fixed up rear end/tranny.....
Anyway, there are several guys on here who have done it (not sure any with a 4.8 tho), but a good place to ask anyway.....

6.0L heads (they have a larger cumbustion chamber so your compression ratio will drop a little bit, but this means that you will be less prone to detination with all of that boost/nitrous you will be giving it) With these heads, I would do some porting and polishing. You may want to check on the valve sizes too because you are going to want a moderately large cam. The bottom end on your engine will be fine (these things are very strong with the six bolt mains - one bolt going horizontally through the block and main) The top end You are going to need a nice fuel system rebuild because there is no way you want to risk running lean under the conditions of so much boost. If that happens say goodbye to your pistons. A nice set of flat top forged pistons should cure that problem J/K you should not run into problems if your fuel system is adequite. (30+# injectors and a larger fuel pump) Spraying a small shot like that with a supercharger is actually a good idea - so long as you don't get carried away with it trying to get 12's). It cools down the heated compressed air put out by the whipple.
Your transmission will for sure need some work - a shift kit doesn't strengthen your tranny much at all.
Your rear end should be alright so long as you arent launching at some enormously high RPM with a converter. I'd wait for problems before I beefed that up. Oh yeah GET SLICKS!
Good Luck, Ryan

It CAN be done. Problem is if the the motor will handle it. You DEFINETLY need to up the fuel system to cover the N2O and boost. You will want it slightly rich to keep it safe, probably around 12.5- air fuel ratio when spraying and boosting.: Whipple 9psi, 100hp N2O, 3200 convertor(won't really notice it much on the street in city driving, it ain't like you think it will be!) Then you will need the best exhaust setup you can get on the truck, meaning full length headers, no cats, big Y pipe and a GOOD catback setup with really free flowing mufflers. I would pull out 6-8 degrees of timing if you are going to spray it. 3.73 with a GOOD aftermarket posi. GOOD tranny cooler, 28" ET streets should get you mid to low 12s. Hyde was losing to 11.60 cars by only 3-4 lengths in an ext cag with only 170hp NOS so his was probably going 12.50s when it popped. It went lean though so thats what popped it. IF You have an ext cab its gonna take 450-475hp at the tires to run mid to low 12s. There is your HP goal, pick your poison on how to make it. Good luck!

Well actualy it didn't go lean it was just to much for the stock piston with such high cylinder pressure. Will that would be easy to achieve for you. MY buddy has a reg cab 4.8 with a whipple and cam, trans go kit rockers, posi and gear, headers, and it has been together for 3yrs and makes 445hp and 460 ftlbs of torque and he has had no problems. Your truck with these mods will run low to mid twelves with traction...No matter what these other people say.....

HYDE! I apreciate it man! I knew some of these things sounded really off the wall and I have seen other trucks run 13's with JUST whipple and that's at 6PSI!!! So I figured with all these other mods I would get into the mid to low 12's. BTW, what is your take on the torque converter? You think a 3200-3500 would be easy to drive in the city????
