What setup / combo did he have at the time?

I know with the right combo the NNBS intake wake up the LM7 5.3's.

This is just an example of a tahoe with 5.3l, 3,600tci stall, 22x/22x custom grind cam, nnbs intake.

That converter they used is a 3600 and 10" Diameter I believe. The rpm drops between shifts is minimal which is good and keeps you in your powerband. The 278mm you are wanting is about 11" diameter and is more of a tame converter. My point is if you want more performance then look at a smaller diameter converter for your truck. Also as stated by someone else, would not hurt to start looking for a built trans. A properly built trans is going to shift better than stock. Imo I would not put an expensive converter in a stock trans if you keep adding more power to your engine. If you just want to go with the 278mm and stick it in the stock trans for now, it should be fine for awhile. I just wouldn't risk putting an expensive converter in a stock trans and have it take out the trans and converter, so I do think the 278mm is your best choice atm unless you have a built trans. Also you might want to get an upgraded tranny cooler when you buy the circle D 278mm.

IIRC. 5.3, yank tt3000, 212/218, and I think he had 243's.

Ya I was thinking a 278mmthe cir-d 3000-3200 and I got a 40k trans cooler. The most I'd tow is like 2 quads or a 18 foot boat think my stall choose will be good for that?

People tow just fine with the circle D 278mm 3000rpm and 40K cooler.

3400 converter is not going to be a 278mm, more than likely going to be a 10" diameter or 10.5" sometimes smaller too.. IT depends. I wouldn't go smaller diameter converter like already stated on a stock trans.
