I trimmed the end that goes into the TB, besides yanking it that's about all you can do. I think you have to have LS1 Edit or some way of clearing the ECM of the EGR function so yuo don't get an SES light. Trimming it's pretty easy, just pull it out of the side of the manifold carefully and trim the piece up to the first little knuckle on the pipe and reinstall it. I used a cut off wheel on my Dremmel tool to do it, took about 5 minutes from start to finish.

I would x on thoes gibsons. Get some long tubes thats where im going. Last night I raced a 01 sbrc 4.8 with hpp3, gibson headers and exaust, plug wires, 160 thermo, fipk and gms maf and walked ALL OVER HIM! We went from a stop, 20mph, 45mph, 60mph and I pulled on this poor guy in every gear. When we pulled over he was cussin a storm b/c he said he spent 2 grand on aftermarket parts and still is gettin beat. He also said the thing he regreted the most was the shorty headers.
ps. I drive 02 5.3 sbrc with a catback and drop in k&n. This guy should have walked me

Sleek, my first new body style chevy was a rcsb w/the 4.3 v6 and auto trans. Got rid of it cuz it was to slow. The first truck I test drove was a rcsb 4.8, and it felt just as slow. In my biased openion the 4.8 has little hope as a high performer without a S/C or NOS.
Im just thinking of the money I have to work with. Either $700 for long tubes, or $230 for shortys and $500 for NOS.

When I do it all over again i'm going dynatech LT and magnaflow cats, but for now the shortys have done ok, you need some kind of headers if you plan on changing cams (in best interest.)
