Weight reduction?
#1
I got a 2003 z71 5.3L 4x4 extended cab and I just realized the other day how much this thing really weights (6400lbs stock, but with me and new tires and rims and mods, I added it up to close to 7000lbs
). I’m currently running 13.8 et’s with a whipple. What things can I start taking off the truck without taking about from the comfort feeling? I am planning on getting some lighter tires and rims but I dont want my truck to look un-proportional (ie: big truck, small tires) and stay with the same style rims.
Any suggestions on reduction and tires and rims?

lose the nerf bars, rear bumper(change to fiberglass roll pan), get stepside bed(weighs less), check the wheel and tire sticky in appearance. centerline and tsw wheels seem to be the lightest. just my .02

Before every race I remove the following:
3 point hitch: approx 60lbs?
Tailgate: approx 60lbs?
Front sway bar & end links: 45lbs? (I think the 4x4 bars weigh less though)
Spare tire: approx 60lbs?
Race @ 1/4 tank of gas or less
As someone posted earlier I would drop those nerf bars too. I think Parish and some other extended cab guys removed the rear seat. You should be able to drop around 2 tenths if you did all that.

Your truck doesn't weigh 6400lbs stock.
You are closer to 5500lbs with all the accessories you have on it.
Weight reductions mods:
Tailgate = 45lbs
Rear Seat = 65lbs
Spare tire = 54lbs (16" wheel with 265/75/16)
Towing package = 35-45lbs?
Front skid plate = less than 10lbs
Those are the things I removed on my truck for racing. Non race days I put the tailgate and rear seat + subwoofer boxes back in.

Go put your truck on a certified scale and you'll see what I mean. i weigh mine on a race track scale everytime I go to the track. Even stock it has never weighed more than 5300lbs and that's with the stereo stuff in it. Now that i have the trubo, intercooler, and tonnuea cover it COULD be in the 5400lb range in total street trim. No way in hell is it 6400lb and we have the same truck.

What you should be looking for at minimum is Curb Weight. It's closer to what your truck actually weighs. Wont be exact though. That's why you should go weigh it to be certain.
It irks the hell out of me when I work hard to get my trucks weight down and make a 5000lb truck fast only to have some guy at the track with the same truck or an HD tell me they could be that fast if their truck didn't weigh 8000lbs..
