Default Walbro fuel pump installed, questions

Alright, I installed the walbro 255 fuel pump in my truck today, took 7 hours from having to lift the tank back up and all! Good news is that it started right up despite a few complications here or there..

My question is this: What changes can I expect from the new pump?

I noticed a slightly louder humming noise from the tank area after startup.

I had problems connecting part of the(I think!) evap system, and wanted to make sure that humming noise isn't a leak or something.

Anything else I should look out for as a trouble sign incase somethings wrong?

Thanks guys!

why did it take you 7hours??? i did mine in an hour...removed bed and swapped pumps and dropped it back in and put bed back on

you wont expect much from the pump. with your power you were fine with a stock pump in all reality

the humming is normal but listen for any hissing, which would mean a leek in the evap system or fuel system.

Humming is noticeably louder than stock pump. Evap leak will turn on MIL.

Thanks for the replies guys!

I wasent expecting any real performance increase, I was asking more for what top expect for noise differences, etc so I know not to be too paranoid. Its the first time ive gone and modified a fuel pump assembly.

As for not neeting it, I am building a 408 and had the pump sitting around and figured I might as well replace it before I get the motor all finished up.

The 7 hours was dropping the tank rather than removing bed. I dident have anyone else helping for the first 5 hours, so I had no option but to drop the tank.

Everyone who is using the Walbro. This isn't exactly a direct replacement pump is it? You had to splice a few wires and use a new connector... Just making sure I got the 'correct' kit.

Thanks.

pretty much throw away the instructions, its very straightforward. I removed the pump assembly, pulled the bottom half of the bucket off(you'll understand when you start on it)(be careful with the wiring, not to break any of the solder points on the fuel level sender), identify the pump(the part with a "sock" attached to it), cut the fuel hose on it, cut the wiring leaving enough length!(black to black, grey to red when re-installing new pump component). You can pretty much figured the rest out here.. Where the hose from the original pump lead to I used a razor and cut the rest of the flex hose off here and just replace it with the included hose(in mine, it was a rubber SFI fuel line, 5/16's ID tubing, about 5/8th's OD size) and clamped.. I cut a hole with a dremel on the bottom to allow more access to fuel to the sock and pump.

Bleh, that looks hard to read seing all the commas, but deal with it, im lazy and wont format lol.

Hope it helps though,
