Default Valvetrain Noise???

So last night I finished putting my LQ4 in. While the motor was out I went ahead and bought a Futral Motorsports Custom Grind 226"/230" .575"/.595" 112LSA. It already has 4 degrees advance ground in. So I start it up and I don't know if everything just needs to be lubed up or what but it was loud. I don't mean hurting your ears but definitely noticable. Is this normal? I'll try and get a sound clip posted up tonight if needed.

Some valvetrain noise seems to be the norm in cam swaps. Both my Camaro and my Vette have the valvetrain noise after cam swap. The Camaro more than the Vette because the Camaro has a quicker ramp, which closes the valve more rapidly. No more than a light "sewing machine" noise. If yours sounds louder, like collapsed lifters, start looking at your oil pump o ring.

Oh, just noticed that yours is a new engine.....I have had some take quite some time to quiet up. Like 10-15 minutes slowly gets better and better. Just keep an eye on that oil pressure!

as said above.. i went from an aggressive XE-R ramp rate to a mild XE ramp rate and the noise just died! It has to do with the Ramp rates of the lobe, come to think of it, my XE-R had +4 ground into it as well...

the only response people told me regardin the noise was to get a louder exhaust! lol

What's your current lifter preload? Here's my 6.0L with a cam that's just a titch more aggressive than yours. Sounds like a little diesel http://s236.photobucket.com/albums/f...0407091210.flv

as stated, VERY common. check lifter preload, torque on rockers, oil level.

if its still noisy, then thats how it be's.

what type assembly lube was used on the build? could add to start up noise a bit.

Rockers are torqued good and the oil level is good. How do you check lifter preload. I'm thinking that it is just going to be a little noisy.
