Default Underdrive pulley install tips??

I just got my ASP underdrive crank and overdrive alt pulleys courtesy TBYRNE Motorsports (THANKS AGAIN!! ), and was wondering if you guys had any install tips for me?? I only have access to a regular 3 jaw puller and I have read that some of you have had alot of problems taking the crank pulley off. Exactly where should I place the legs of the puller for maximum effectiveness and so I dont break anything?? THANKS, any comments welcome!!!

The stock crank pulley has two built-in locations (pads) to place the puller jaws. You can also use the inside of the outer ring if these won't work. Use a 1/2 drive breaker bar or torque wrench to break it lose. Hold the engine from spinning with a large cresent wrench on one of the puller jaws.

Good Luck.

Thanks, I know I'll need it, even the simplest things have been giving me trouble with this truck. Also I'm a little confused with the way these pulleys work, if the underdrive crank pulley is smaller than the stock one then why is the overdrive alt puley smaller than stock too?? I just dont get it??

I know its not ok to use an impact gun to install the crank pulley bolt, but is it okay to use an impact to take the crank bolt off? I don't see how this could hurt it.

i think the alt pulley is so you will still maintain the same alt. charging.Thats the way i understand it anyways.

To put it back on I used a peice of stud (whatever size the bolt is for the crank) A think piece of metal and a nut. The piece of metal should be like 1/2 thick 2"-3" wide and 8 to 10 inches long. You have to drill a hole in the center of the peice of metal for the stud to go threw. So to put the crank pully back on you screw the stud into the crank, slip the metal bar over the stud so it resets on the pully and put the nut into the stud. When you tighten it down it will press the pully back on the crank. This setup will keep you from pullying the threads out of the crank. Hope this helps

Why is that? Why can't you use an impact gun to install it?

the reason that we say not to use an impact is that the amount of threads that the bolt actually grabs is not very many and it can strip out. i bought a pully installer for about 15.00 and cut it down a little. it works fine.

ahhhh...I see, I was thinking he meant don't use an impact on the crank bolt...he meant not the puller. OKay...my bad. Of course not. Cool.

No you don't want to use an impact gun to seat the ASP pulley because it is only in about 2 threads deep when you start it and if it isn't on there perfect, you could ruin the crank. You can use it for the final torque down though. Be sure to use a new bolt on the final torque down.

I'm going to make the install tool, what is the size and thread of the crank bolt so I can buy a piece of all thread and a nut.
