Default Tuning Questions???

I got my HP Tuners earlier this week and have been playing with it little at a time. Couple questions.......I'm pretty sure I got all the TM out of it ( I know, stupid idea runnin 38s with 4l60e ), I haven't touched anything on the engine yet, other than downloaded my hypertech settings for 93 octane. I was told that the hypertech hardley does any advancing of the timing, but I'm not sure how to go about advancing it more. I searched and couldn't find any guides or examples I could download. I was also told that I really couldn't advance the timing without a wideband, is that true? I also went to the track tonight, last time I was there I ran a 16.72 with hypertech. Tonight I ran a 17.1 with hypertech settings and when I installed my HPTuners tune( no TM, adjusted shift pressures/points) all it dropped me was to 3 runs of 16.8s and one 16.79. I would have thought I could have dropped a little more off than that, or am I dreaming? Let me know what you guys think, other than I'm gunna need a new tranny, I'm already woking on that Thanks

Looking at your sig the engine is basically stock. You wont be seeing alot of improvements until you start modding more. There is engine tm and trannsmission tm.

As far as the timing I would only change your high and low octane tables, but honestly I would tune your fuel trims first then go to upping the timing. Shouldnt be hard to get your fuel trims in line since the engine is stock. I would start by going over to the pcm section of ls1 and reading all the stickies print the tuning 101 out and take it with you. IF your trims are withing +-4 then I would start upping the timing you want to monitor kr very closely when doing this. The way I derived my current timing tables was I took jimmyblues tunes you can get them on the horist site and modified his tables.

If I can help out feel free to pm me, should be easy to put a great tune on your truck with it being so close to stock

READ THE STICKIES.

Always address fuel first before doing any tom foolery to your ignition timing.

Thanks for the help guys. When I get home tonight I'm going to read through all the stickies again and try to do some logging and see what I got.

As far as the knock, right now I'm running 94 with the hypertech tune and I'm seeing up to 6, is that normal, or should it be a lower number??
