Default True Dual Exhaust Question

I have a 2001 chevy silverado with the 5.3 engine. My question is this, I have ASM headers on my truck and I would like to go with true dual exhaust 3". I was told that my computer would not like this, I have to stay with the Y pipe. Is this true. If I go with the true duals which muffler would be the best to use with this setup. Does onyone have any comments on this setup.

There are a few people on this board with some true-duels. Not sure where you heard that about problems with the computer, but they are not true.

When I first got my truck (May of 99), the exhaust shops in the town I lived in at the time were under the same impression. They said "we can't do anything before the Y." I think the real issue is the O2 sensors, right behind the cats.

hmmm... So, they'd put a Y right after the factory Y, put on a pair of mufflers and go from there... So it kinda forms an X-pipe, in a sense... Mine's a slightly different concept - I have a single muffler right after the factory Y with a Y after the muffler... hmmm... Sorry, I'm more or less just thinking out loud, now... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

They cut the factory y collector off, run single pipes from there into an x pipe to seperate mufflers.

If you go true dual on stock cubes under 350ci, don't go bigger than 2.5" and I suggest an X pipe since the crossover is not even. Look in mods page and see pics of my setup.

I cut the Y off and ran 2 separate pipes into a stock muffler from a 2002 ford lightning which has dual inlets and dual outlets. I have 2 pipes from the muffler out the back (all 2.5") Last night at the track I unhooked the muff just to see and it made NO performance difference. I am happy with this setup.
