Default Truck intake restrictive to volume or velocity?

The common word is the truck intake makes better torque, and lower rpm power, but falls off over 6000.

Is that power issue due to velocity or volume?

if it's volume, than a truck intake on a n/a4.8 or a n/a5.3 wouldn't come across this rpm related issue, correct? usually people are talking about 6.0's or forced induction when they discuss truck intake restriction.

or is it velocity, and once you're moving the air that fast it is restricted, therefore displacement not being an issue?

just a thought...

i don't see how it would be either parish made over 1000rwhp with the stocker. and there are many people that spin over 6000 with there stock intakes.

My hypothesis would be velocity just by looking at the truck vs. LS1/LS6 design, but I don't have any facts to back that up, just an educated guess. The car manifold just looks to be so much smoother and direct. I guess there are more options for the cars as far as volume is concerned also...the aftermarket intakes with the larger opening that will facilitate 90mm throttle bodies.

there's no option for the truck, unless you go with ls1 accessory's right?

That's correct as far as I know...there may be a company that offers a retrofit assembly/bracket to relocate the upper idler pulley, then the waterpump would just have to be replaced/modified.

Why not just use the SSR intake?? I know I am selling one but it would bolt right up and you wouldnt have to change anything except adapt the throttle body. There is an adapter plate made for this, it was in GM High Tech Performance last month. The LS2 manifold is supposed to flow as much as the LS6?????

Here are some pictures of what I am talking about:

the new ssr intake, with a new ssr electronic TB sounds like a totally viable option, and the best of both worlds. anyone done anything like this?

I think it would work real nice, if you have the electronic throttle I dont see why you couldnt use the 90mm SSR throttle body. This is mine for sale but I can keep people posted on others that come up for sale off the SSR site.

I was looking the intake over yesterday and think it would look great to shave the mounts for the engine cover and stuff off of it and paint it. This is a real nice looking intake if it was shaved, the raised runners and upper plenum are huge.

Hmm the wheels are turning in my head now this may be an option later on down the road when I get a direct portr system I may upgrade to an ssr intake and then use a FAST 90mm tb. How much do just hte intakes go for usually on the ssr website 2005SSR6Speed?
