The TransGo kit I used is called a reprogram kit and includes everything from pump to housing mods and will facilitate full manual operation if desired...its very complete.

To do the full operation (with the aide of a lift) is about 3.5-4 hrs (I like to remove the tranny instead of working upside-down.)

To do everything but the pump and housing mods should take 2.5-3 hours.

3 washers rule but TQM sucks. If you are running stock programming...2 washer for 01'+ trucks with <300 RWTQ...1 washer and line pressure for 01'+ >300 RWTQ

As soon as my core PCM comes in and LS1Edit follws, I'll back to the 3 washer.

Might be a dumb question, but I'm assuming that the 4L60E in my 01' S-truck is very similar to the one that GM uses in it's full size trucks w/ the exception of the bellhousing. Yes or No? If I can't afford the Silverado in a few months, I plan to mod this truck some. Most of the S10 sites aren't too versed in mods like the Transgo. To me, the shifts in my truck are nice at part throttle, but slow & too soft at WOT. By reading this post - I think the Transgo kit would be a good mod for my truck.

More dumb questions, all the guys on these S10 sites seem to have the opinion that a stall converter won't be any good for a 4.3L S10. Tell me why this would or wouldn't be true. IMHO, the GM converter isn't as efficient as an aftermarket Yank or PI would be. Also, they seem to think the combination of headers and a y-pipe aren't good, "kills too much low end power" they say, but no dyno graphs, timeslips, etc to back it up. Their opinion seems to be that you should ony do one, either just headers, or just a y-pipe. By looking at the factory y-pipe, I see room for inprovement. Also, I thought headers were good for 99.9% of anything w/ a motor?

Sorry for the non-Silverado/Sierra questions, I just feel from reading this board that I can get a lot better understanding of things that I am curious about. Thank you in advance to all who respond.

--I watched the video it comes with and did they mention something about the springs that come in the white and blue box with that guys face on it? Maybe i missed it, but i don't think so???

86 IROC, I would imagine your transmission is like ours (4L60e) because the 4.3L is an option on a base Silverado/Sierra. You are probably right about it just being the bellhousing that is different, but I am not 100% sure about this.
If you do both headers and y-pipe you will loose some low end -probably so much as to not enjoy it when just daily driving. But if you do a converter for racing on the track you will not have to worry about down low torque because you will spool up to within your power band before it locks up -thus getting past any low torque problems. Now all you have to do is keep traction

So, it seems as though there is some truth to losing too much low end power in a street driven truck. I do mostly local driving curently, so if I end up keeping this truck I may jump to 3.73's. I think that, the exhaust upgrades, and a good converter will make a big gain. But, I'd much rather have the full size if funds allow.
