Default Trans trouble

Is my trans already starting to go? I havent even put any serious power to it yet.

The mighty 4.8 is only putting about 300HP to the ground.

The truck has only 33,000 miles on its. The trans has felt its fair share of nitrous, hard 3-1 downshifts, and sideways slides.

But is the transmission really that weak? Ive only felt it slip once or twice, but I know its a sign if things to come.

Fix it under warranty with another stock trans that will die?
Go with a built trans and high stall? Or
Keep going until it dies a nitrous filled death, then fix it?

The stock tranny 4l60e is rated at 360lbs of torque. If you are at 300 hp at the rear tires then you got some good power and are at the limit of the tranny. The shifts are two soft and long, that wears out the bands and causes slip. You are not at an extreme amount of performance on the tranny so like Whitt1 said, a couple of servos and a shift kit would pretty much keep the beast tame, but you are close or at the limit of the tranny and 100,000 miles may not be feasable any more!

3-1 shifts are BAD on stock internals. The full throttle shifts 2-3 are bad also. The 3-4 pack is what typically goes as when power increases there is not sufficient fluid flow to keep them cool/lubricated and then they go bad.

I say: get your truck back to stock. Get it in for warranty repair. Once the trans is new break it in for a few hundred miles then take it to a competant tranny place and get the PSK-4L60E TransGo kit put in properly. Also get the billet intermediate and overdrive servos from Fairbanks. Those three parts will make the trans last far, far longer as well as shift better.

When you are getting the dealer to rebuild (replace) it, if you are buddies with them, consider asking if they could get a 4L65E if you tossed in a few $$$ or do a better than stock rebuild too.

I went into the deallership today, they said they would need it for a day to take a look at it (make sure it really slips and Im not after free work) But, my concern is its only slipped once or twice for me, and I know when there tech looks at/drives it. Im afraid that if I doesnt slip I wont get the work done.

Also have a billet intermediate servo and I bumped line pressure with a HPP3.

If you have the know how, put the stock servos in. I would also take the HPP3 tuning out. If they give you flack about it, just tell them it's done it once or twice before but not all to frequently.

If they don't do anything about it ... express more concern and that you don't want it to break down on you out in the middle of nowhere.

How much do you have left on your warranty?

If or when mine goes, I think I'm going to skip the de-mod warranty game and just go all out and get a FLP, I know its probably the most expensive route, but it would allow me to add as much nitrous as I want (to a degree - maybe 125 safely), and probably wouldn't give me the hassles of a plain tranny shop rebuild (I've heard enough horror stories)

The only downside is they are not around to fix it if something goes bad - but it sounds like they have a pretty good reputation.

If youre planning on adding power, and can afford it, I'd go with a good built tranny. But there is no harm in trying to get a free one - especially a 4l65e

i work at a dealership and do my share of trannies, anytime a tech has a chance to mess w/ trannies they wont turn it down, its good money, just make sure most of your truck is still stock cuz the tech has to call gm and they ask if it is an alterd veh.

The servo is the only not 'return to stock'able mod (I dont have have the stock one to put back in) I know the trany tech but I dont know how the service writer is going to treat me.
