Default trans and motor mount questions.

ok, everytime i start and stop i hear a clunk. no play in the rear and i know the rotors always have some shifting on the studs in the rear but this is more than that do yall think it could be the trans or motor mounts. havent had time to look yet.

U-joints maybe? I get a nasty clunk when I go into gear due to my transfer case. It's probably "normal" according to GM. Also check the rear leaf springs as they may be clunking together too...

It's probably the "Driveline clunk". There's a TSB out about it. Mine's getting pretty bad here It definately doesn't sound good, but I've never heard of it being a show stopper, just one of the normal anoyances with the otherwise great trucks. Think I may just pull of the yolk and through some grease in there like someone else did and see if that helps. Does anyone know if I can order the replacement part specified in the TSB? Isn't it a chromed plated/lined yolk?

It's a nickel plated yoke and I had that TSB performed on my truck (2000 GM Sierra). It hasn't done it since. I'm sure you could order the part but why don't you have it done under the TSB. Even if your truck is out of the warranty period they should honor it I think.

Sweet! I was wondering if it would still be covered. I'm not a big fan of taking my truck places for servicing. Nobody around here understands the performance aspect. Seems like all everybody does to trucks here is throws on huge *** lifts and some flowmasters. I even think the exhaust guy that's doing my Y-pipe is going to Talked to him today about just modifiying the Y-pipe a per ASM instructions, but he wants the truck onsite just in case. Wish me luck running the gauntlet in the morning with open headers.

My starting and stopping noises came from the leaf springs. The pad on the lower helper spring would come into contact with the spring above it and when it rubbed, it make the noise. At first I thought it was the rear end too.

Grease up the little plastic pad / spacer the lower helper springs pad and see if the issue goes away.
