Tranny Cooler install question

Default Tranny Cooler install question

I bought the 40k tranny cooler, but I dont have a stock tranny cooler. My lines go into the radiator and thats it. Any write ups I missed? I searched all over this site and elsewhere. Do I just cut the lines before they go into the radiator, run new ones to the 40k and cap the radiator?

If you want to by pass the radiator entirely, and I dont see why not since you are in texas, just disconnect the lines from the rad and run them to the cooler and block off the empty rad holes.

mine bypass the radiator too. made a nite and day difference in engine cooling too. takes a load off the radiator

I'm probably going to do this as well. Do you guys think that if I mounted the cooler somewhere under the bed it will still cool, or would I have to put a fan on it?

If you plan to use the cooler as an auxilary cooler, you will want to run it in series with the return line to the trans, which is the top line going to the radiator. I plan to get the GM auxiliary cooler kit which includes the factory cooler and necessary hard lines to install a factory cooler, only I will be deleting the factory cooler and installing the TruCool 40K, PN 4739 with internal thermal bypass, which will bypass the trans cooler until the trans fluid reaches a certain temp. This is a must for colder climates, such as the northeast where I live. A compression fitting is necessary if using GM PN 12497071 with the TruCool, as the passenger side tube will not line up with the cooler, and will have to be cut and turned about 180* to line up, and the compression fitting installed to re-attach the cut line

If you want to bypass the cooler in the radiator, you can do what Cody (1slow01z71) did and run new braided hoses and -6 AN fittings: https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...t=trans+cooler
